Water is essential for life. Yet many millions of people around the world face water shortages, especially in agriculture. Water resources can be a catalyst for cooperation.
The international celebration of World Water Day is an initiative that
grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and
Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro. World Water Day is an
opportunity for individuals, groups, organizations and governments to
raise awareness of the importance of conserving and managing our water
resources by organizing initiatives and activities related to water.
