Consular District of Nicosia

The Nicosia Consular District comprises the Republic of Cyprus. This includes the southern portion of the island as well as the northern portion controlled by Turkish Cypriots.

Registered mail may be sent through the Cyprus postal service and a return receipt obtained. International reply coupons should be used when it is desired to prepay a reply.

There are no branches of American banks on the island.

As a result of the events on Cyprus in the summer of 1974, the northern area of the island, including Kyrenia and Famagusta, is presently under Turkish Cypriot control; the southern, Greek Cypriot area remains under the control of the Republic of Cyprus. The political situation remains unsettled. Legal matters involving Greek Cypriots and/or the southern area of Cyprus or involving Turkish Cypriots and/or the northern area of the island should generally be referred to lawyers from the respective communities.
