On January 14, U.S. Chargé d'Affaires a.i. Jane Zimmerman and H.E. Ambassador Jan Bondy of the Czech Republic welcomed over 70 people as they attended a screening of The Fireman’s Ball on the first night of Embassy Nicosia's Milos Forman Film Festival. The festival, which was jointly organized by both the American and Czech Embassies, honors the life and work of filmaker Milos Forman during his 75th year. The Chargé explained that Mr. Forman is a true modern-day success story. Orphaned at a young age when his parents were killed at the German concentration camp in Auschwitz, Forman rose to become one of the most influential filmmakers in Czechoslovakia and the United States. Both before and after the screening, delighted guests enjoyed the celebratory atmosphere which included Czech beer. The Film Festival, which presents a new Milos Forman film every Monday and Wednesday evening, continues until February 6.
