October 10-21, 2005

The class has started, children and teachers participate

The U.S. Embassy Nicosia organized a two-week program for children with special abilities (October 10-21). Carole A. Reid, also known as Aziza, Founder and Director of Def Dance Jam Workshop (DDJW) in New York city visited Cyprus for the third time in three years to share her experience and knowledge with local educators and the children. Programs were organized in both communities.

A total of 350 children with special abilities and their teachers attended the programs and actively participated in the workshops that were conducted with live music. Aziza also cooperated with a local dancer/choreographer and produced two dance performances, one in each community.

Aziza's program, in addition to the excellent way it has addressed the interest and needs of children with special abilities in Cyprus, was immensely successful in sharing the American experience in both Cypriot communities. Audiences responded to the programs and demonstrated great enthusiasm.
