Academics, students, and friends got together for a New Year’s party on December 22 at the American Corner at Near East University library. The event was organized by the Corner Coordinator in cooperation with the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy. Assistant Public Affairs Officer Jessica Adams welcomed everyone to the party and urged participants to take part in the games organized by the Corner's Coordinator. Guests had the opportunity to test their knowledge of English by playing hangman and taking part in a spelling bee. The party was an opportunity for Corner patrons to get to know each other and to share their ideas and thoughts about the American Corner. The highlight of the party was the introduction of the Corner’s new acquisition, a gaming console which was used to showcase popular American sports and pastimes, like tennis and bowling. Many students participated in a virtual bowling competition and won American literature books and music CDs. Guests praised the party organizers and the service provided by the Corner, extending their wishes for the holiday season to their colleagues and friends. “The American Corner rocks,” one guest commented. |
