On November 6, Cyprus Fulbright Commission and Education USA Counselor Gulsen Oztoprak spoke to a group of students about graduate education in the United States, during a presentation held at the American Corner at Near East University Library. Ms. Oztoprak discussed with students all aspects of graduate education, including admission requirements, financial aid, scholarship opportunities, and student life in the United States. She also explained the structure and the importance of different tests that applicants need to take before applying for graduate study.
Ms. Oztoprak and participating U.S. university alumnae shared their personal experiences of studying in the U.S. and highlighted the opportunities for fellowships and assistantships at U.S. educational institutions. Ms. Oztoprak used educational reference materials from the American Corner collection to demonstrate the vast choice of institutions and programs, and to provide the students with guidelines for selecting a university and preparing their applications for admission. Through the Corner, students have access to college descriptions and standardized test guides, including TOEFL, GRE and GMAT books. The students engaged in a lively conversation with Ms. Oztoprak and asked questions on applying for graduate degrees in engineering, psychology, and international relations.
The American Corner event was part of a series of presentations and advising sessions on U.S. Education, which will take place during the academic year. |
